Jen Skillicorn on Navigating Change with Intention

Today’s blog post was inspired by a recent episode of The Great Connect podcast, where The Human Array founder Carrie Allen sat down with integrative health coach Jen Skillicorn for a conversation about navigating life’s changes and transitions wyoutubith intention, resilience, and community.

In that episode, the discussion turned toward what it means to slow down, reconnect with your values and what really matters, and move through times of transition in a way that brings both clarity and joy.

The Power of Community Over Individual Struggle

We live in a culture that often glorifies independence—pushing us to solve problems alone, to carry burdens quietly, and to see vulnerability as weakness.

Jen’s work reminds us that connection is where transformation takes root.

It was the community piece of it. You're not alone, we have similar shared challenges, and we [all] wrestle with trying to find the right modalities and strategies and approaches that work for each person.  —Jen Skillicorn

When we gather in circles of support, we discover that our struggles are not isolating but universal. In those shared spaces, healing accelerates—not because the challenges vanish, but because they're witnessed.

Rest as a Radical Act

In times of transition, the instinct is often to push harder, achieve more, or “fix” the discomfort through effort. But true restoration begins in stillness.

Rest can be radical and revolutionary. Slowing down is the first step. —Jen Skillicorn

Slowing down isn’t laziness—it’s wisdom. It’s the pause that allows our nervous systems to reset, our intuition to speak, and our bodies to restore their natural rhythm.

In a world addicted to productivity, rest becomes both radical and necessary.

Living with Intention

Transitions, whether chosen or thrust upon us, invite the question: What truly matters?

Intentional living means making choices rooted in values rather than fear, clarity rather than confusion. But to discern those values, we must quiet the noise.

What's important to you in terms of core values, priorities, and passions? Quiet everything else, slow down, and tune stuff out so you can actually tap in to what's really important for you right now.  —Jen Skillicorn

This process isn’t about creating a perfect five-year plan—it’s about aligning daily actions with what matters most, even when the path forward is uncertain.

From Burnout to Breakthrough

Many people come to transition not from inspiration, but from exhaustion. The signs of burnout—fatigue, disconnection, a sense of meaninglessness—are signals that something deeper is asking to be addressed.

We're living through a volcanic time that's asking us to rise. Either you're going to stay in this crunchy, uncomfortable, dark, fearful place, or you're going to rise to that next version of what needs to be.  —Jen Skillicorn

Growth rarely feels comfortable in the moment. But discomfort can also be an initiation, asking us to rise into a fuller, more authentic version of ourselves.

The Ripple Effect of Authentic Living

Small, intentional shifts in how we live our lives can create ripples of change far beyond what we see. When we show up authentically, we give others permission to do the same.

It's radical to feel good—not just to slow down, but to actually cultivate joy just by shifting your mindset and how you see the world. —Jen Skillicorn

Joy, then, is not a frivolous byproduct—it’s a revolutionary act.

By cultivating joy, we not only restore ourselves but also model resilience and possibility for those around us.

Practical Tools for Transition

Navigating change doesn’t require elaborate systems. Often, the simplest tools are the most powerful:

  • Mindfulness practices to ground the body and quiet the mind.

  • Spending time outdoors to reconnect with natural rhythms.

  • Community support to share the load and witness each other’s growth.

These practices aren't about escaping challenge. They're about meeting it with clarity, courage, and compassion.

Coming Home Through Change

Life transitions rarely unfold in the ways we expect. But by embracing community, practicing rest, living intentionally, and allowing joy, we can transform uncertainty into opportunity.

The path forward isn't about perfection—it’s about presence.

It’s about remembering that we don’t have to navigate change alone, and that each intentional choice we make ripples outward into the collective.
