Navigating AI: Explore how artificial intelligence is shaping your body, mind, and heart — and what it takes to stay human in a tech-driven world. A powerful conversation on digital hypnosis, nervous system awareness, and conscious collaboration with AI.
In this week's episode of The Great Connect podcast, Digital Hypnosis: Mental Health and the Slippery Slope of AI, The Human Array Founder Carrie Allen sat down with Energy & Embodiment Coach Amanda Johnson of Heartspark for an honest and timely conversation about navigating the rapidly-evolving world of artificial intelligence.
The question isn't whether AI will transform our world — it's whether we'll be conscious participants in that transformation, or unconscious victims of it. Carrie and Amanda's conversation offers a roadmap for maintaining our sovereignty while harnessing the incredible power and potential of AI as a tool.
The Body: Your Highest Form of Technology
Long before algorithms and machines, we were breathing, sensing, adapting — built to survive and thrive through complexity, each of us operating through a remarkably sophisticated biological system, capable of processing emotion, intuition, and sensory input in ways no artificial intelligence can replicate.
The truth is: the highest form of technology is, in fact, the human body.
Our nervous system, our heartbeat, our breath. These aren't just background processes; they're powerful feedback mechanisms, guiding us toward truth, safety, and connection.
If we hope to engage consciously with emerging technologies, we must first reconnect with the original one we carry within.
You are the highest form of technology. You have a system that speaks to you on a daily basis. The question is whether you're listening to it or not, and whether you understand your operating system, because we all have different ones. —Carrie Allen, Founder of The Human Array

The Nervous System and the New Frontier
The nervous system is the body’s frontline security system, constantly scanning the environment and making split-second decisions about safety, connection, and trust. What makes AI so unprecedented is that our biology has never encountered anything like it.
This isn’t just a tech upgrade — it’s an entirely new frontier for the human operating system.
Human nervous systems have never done this before. This is brand new for our system to make decisions about. —Amanda Johnson, Founder of Heartspark
When interacting with AI, the body processes sensory input faster than the mind can track, triggering dopamine, the same reward chemical sparked by social media.
For those with neurodivergent nervous systems, especially ADHD, this pattern of dopamine-seeking can be even more pronounced, creating cycles of heightened stimulation followed by depletion.
What often goes unnoticed is the crash that follows the spike. The nervous system naturally seeks balance, and overstimulation often leads to a sharp drop — sometimes below baseline.
Warning signs include:
A strong urge to return to the tool
Trouble focusing elsewhere
Feeling depleted or deflated after use
Physical symptoms like restlessness or a racing heart
These aren’t random reactions — they’re your body trying to recalibrate in an unfamiliar, overstimulating environment.

The Mind: When Your Thoughts Aren't Your Own
The shift from body to mind happens more slowly and insidiously. While the body reacts instantly, the mind rewires itself over time, forming patterns that are harder to notice and even harder to break.
Unlike social media, which still involves human interaction, AI creates silent echo chambers, mirroring back what users already believe. Validating, engaging, and rarely challenging. The result? Reinforced patterns and blurred boundaries between internal thought and external influence.
These tools are designed to keep the dialogue going (one more question, one more prompt), which leads to a kind of tunnel vision that can disconnect users from reality and relationships.
The danger isn’t that AI is inherently harmful. It’s that prolonged isolation, even in a pleasant echo chamber, can quietly weaken our ability to think independently and discern truth from noise.
It can be really easy to lose track of which thoughts are mine and which thoughts have sort of been given to me by the tool that I'm working with? —Amanda Johnson, Founder of Heartspark

The Heart: Your True Intelligence Center
This is where the science gets truly fascinating: the heart sends more neural signals to the brain than the brain sends to the heart. In fact, about 80% of nervous system communication flows from the heart and body upward, and only 20% travels the other way.
As a result, when we operate purely from the mind (as extended AI interaction tends to encourage), we bypass the majority of our body’s innate intelligence. This disconnects us from embodied wisdom, intuitive knowing, and the ability to feel into deeper truths that transcend logic.
AI, by its very nature, cannot replicate this living, biological intelligence, because it has no heart.
And when we override the signals of our own human heart, we risk becoming a version of artificial intelligence ourselves: disconnected, disembodied, and out of touch with the full spectrum of human awareness.
Your heart sends more messages to your brain than your brain does to your heart. If we step into that purely mental state, you're actually disconnected from your true brain, which lives in your heart, and that is a brain that AI does not have. —Carrie Allen, Founder of The Human Array

Practical Guidelines for Consciously Navigating AI
Here are some simple, practical ways to stay grounded, clear, and connected as AI becomes a bigger part of daily life. These body, mind, and heart-level practices are designed to help you use AI as a tool, without losing your humanity in the process.
Body-Level Awareness
Take breaks: Place your hand on your heart and notice its rhythm
Check your physical state: Is your heart racing? Are you tense? Energized or depleted?
Monitor the crash: Pay attention to how you feel hours after AI sessions
Set boundaries: Use timers, limit sessions, and create AI-free spaces
Mind-Level Discernment
Question ownership: Ask yourself, "Are these my thoughts?"
Seek external feedback: Share AI-generated content with trusted humans
Maintain perspective: Remember, you're learning something entirely new
Practice the pause: Before accepting AI suggestions, sit with them first
Heart-Level Connection
Breathe into your heart: Imagine breathing directly into your heart space
Feel your unique rhythm: Focus on your heartbeat to anchor in your body
Trust your knowing: If something feels off, honor that feeling
Stay connected to community: Don't navigate this transformation alone
The Path Forward: Empowerment Over Fear
The goal isn’t to fear AI or reject its place in our lives. It’s to engage with it consciously, choosing collaboration over consumption and awareness over automation.
Remember your sovereignty. AI is a tool. And no tool (digital or otherwise) should be handed the reins of your attention, agency, or inner knowing.
You aren't just a user of technology. You're the most advanced technology there is. With your body, mind, and heart working in harmony, you possess a depth of intelligence no algorithm can replicate.
We need to hold on to our own power and not give it away. You are powerful. The technology, the wisdom you possess — in your body, your heart, your mind — brings this beautiful existence into reality. —Carrie Allen, Founder of The Human Array
